The fifth and final match of the five-match Test series between India and England is underway at Edgbaston. At the end of Day 1, India was at 337/8. And the reason for India’s dominating the day was Rishabh Pant.

From 98/5, India ended the day with three wickets in hand and crossed the 300-run mark. Ravindra Jadeja is unbeaten on 83*, and Shami is not out at 0*.

But the day belongs to Rishabh Pant, who came at a difficult time and took India to the driver’s seat. The wicket-keeper batter scored 146 runs off just 111 balls at a strike rate of 131.58. He also hit 19 boundaries and four sixes.

His century came at a crucial time that gave India the chance to win this match. He also added the highest fourth wicket partnership with Ravindra Jadeja against England.

Both batters added 222 runs off just 239 balls. Pant hit all the English bowlers to all parts of the stadium. The Indian head coach, Rahul Dravid, also couldn’t stop him and showed him emotion at Pant’s century.

Dravid, Virat and other team members screamed in joy when Pant reached his fifth Test century.

Earlier, India lost their first five wickets for 98 runs. Virat made 11 runs and Cheteshwar Pujara could only manage 13 runs. Shubman Gill looked good but got out at 17 runs. 
Shreyas Iyer also came and looked in a hurry and got out at 15 off 11 balls. But after that, the big partnership helped India come back into the game.
