T20 World Cup 2022: The all-important announcement has been made and India has finally named the replacement for the injured Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The Indian team is preparing for their upcoming matches in Australia. On Friday, the all-India Selection Committee announced veteran pacer Mohammed Shami as the replacement.
The announcement was made in a press release. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said, “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mohammed Shami as Bumrah’s replacement in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. Shami has reached Australia and will link up with the squad in Brisbane ahead of the warm-up matches.”
Shami had already left for Australia a couple of days ago. He will now join the team for the remaining two warm-up games against Australia and New Zealand. India will face Australia on October 17 and New Zealand on October 19. Both games will be played at The Gabba, Brisbane.
Mohammed Shami replaces Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for T20 World Cup 2022
Shami was the first choice for the team. However, due to COVID 19, he was not able to take part in the home series against Australia and South Africa. But he will play in two warm-up games to get the much-needed game time under his belt.
Shami played the last T20 international for India in the last edition of the T20 World Cup in the UAE. He did, however, perform admirably for the IPL champion Gujarat Titans. In his T20I career, the veteran pacer has played 17 games and has taken 18 wickets, with the best figure of 3/15.
He played 16 games in the IPL 2022 and took 20 wickets at an economy rate of 8. In the absence of Bumrah, Shami will bring the all-important experience that current Indian bowling is lacking in the pace department. On the other hand, he has also done well in Australia in the other two formats.
