T20 World Cup 2022: IND vs AUS: India defeated world champions Australia in their first warm-up match at the Gabba in Brisbane. And the hero of the game was undoubtedly the player who wasn’t even in the team. It was the veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, who had just come out to bowl the last over of the chase.
Australia needed 11 runs off the last over and the Indian skipper brought Shami to bowl from nowhere, and he didn’t disappoint. Notably, this was the first T20 game in the Indian jersey since the last T20 World Cup in the UAE. The Aussies took two doubles off the first two balls of the over. But they lost four back-to-back wickets off the last four balls, resulting in 180 runs all out.
On the third ball, Shami dismissed Pat Cummins (7) to a brilliant one-handed catch by Virat Kohli at the boundary line. Then, on the fourth ball, Ashton Agar (0) sacrificed his wicket in order to bring Josh Inglis to the crease. On the other two balls, Shami bowled Inglis and Kane Richardson (0) off successive deliveries, making it four out of four.

Earlier, India made 186/7 in 20 overs with the help of KL Rahul (57 off 33) and Suryakumar Yadav (50 off 33). Chasing the target, Australia got a brilliant start. Finch and Mitchell Marsh (35 off 18) added 41 for the first wicket. Finch got out in the 19th over and Australia struggled from that point. The Australian skipper made 76 off 54 balls.
Shami was the surprise package in this match, and it was an unexpected move from India. This will certainly give the team much-needed confidence. Fans were also thrilled to see Mohammed Shami make such a brilliant comeback in the game.
