Most Runs in the history of T20 World Cup

T20 World Cup 2022 will begin in Australia on October 12. The winners of the last edition, Australia, will look to defend their title against other top teams in the world. A total of 16 teams will test their fortune to try their hands on the World T20 title. More than 240 players will enter the tournament looking to give their best.

So far, the world has seen a total of 7 editions of the T20 World Cup. A settled team can perform well. 1. Mahela Jayawardene (1016 runs) in 31 games

Former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene holds the record for most runs in T20 World Cups. He has played 31 games in five world cups between 2007 and 2014 and has scored 1016 runs at an average of 39.07. Jayawardene has also scored one century and six fifties in total and is the only batsman with 1000+ runs in T20 World Cups.

2. Chris Gayle (965 runs) in 33 games

Next on the list is “Universe Boss,” Chris Gayle. The big left-hander has played in all seven editions from 2007 to 2021. He has scored 965 runs in 33 matches at an average and strike rate of 34.46 and 142.75. He is the only batter who has scored two centuries in the T20 World Cup along with seven half-centuries.

3. Tillakaratne Dilshan (897 runs) in 35 games

Former Sri Lankan all-rounder and opener Tillakaratne Dilshan is third on the list. Dilshan was one of the most consistent batters in T20 World Cup history. He has played for Sri Lanka in six editions between 2007 and 2016. Dilshan had scored 897 runs in 35 matches at an average and strike rate of 30.93 and 124.06, along with six half-centuries.

4. Rohit Sharma (847 runs) in 33 games

For India, only Rohit Sharma has played in all the T20 World Cups since 2007. He is fourth on the list of the highest run-getters in T20 World Cup history. He has a chance to perform well and become the highest run-getter overall. Rohit has scored 847 runs in 30 innings at an average of 38.50 and a strike rate of 131.52 with 8 half-centuries.

5. Virat Kohli (845 runs) in 21 games

When it comes to performing well on the big stage, there are not many who can compare with Virat Kohli. The “Man of the Tournament” in the 2014 and 2016 editions. His numbers suggest that he is one of his kind. Virat has played just 19 innings and has scored 845 runs at an incredible average of 76.81 and a strike rate of 129.60, including 10 half-centuries (which is the most).
