India announces squads for T20 World Cup and home series: Big name misses T20 WC

T20 World Cup 2022: Finally, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming India assignments, including the T20 World Cup. The selection committee led by Chetan Sharma has picked 15 Indian players, who will play against Australia and South Africa at home as well.

After looking at the squad announced, it looks like India has preferred to go with the experienced squad. India will play two series at home against Australia and South Africa for three T20Is each, and they have mostly gone with the same set of players in the team. Speaking of the T20 World Cup 2022 squad, the surprise exclusion from the team is veteran pacer Mohammed Shami.

However, the good news is that both Jasprit Bumraha and Harshal Patel are back in the side. In case of any injury, Shami is part of the reserve players and will be replaced. On the other hand, the team is almost the same as the one that played in the Asia Cup. But star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who suffered a knee injury, has missed the ticket to the T20 World Cup. Axar Patel has taken his place.

India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (vc), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Ravi Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh.

Speaking of the team for the series against Australia and South Africa, India has gone with the same team. But they have given Shami the chance to play against Australia and South Africa at home, and he is in the team. Hardik will miss the series against South Africa but will feature in three T20Is against Australia.

The rest of the squad is the same for both series. It means that India will continue with the same XI till the T20 World Cup. However, after a dismal performance in the Asia Cup, India needs to address some areas of concern.

The series against Australia will start on September 20, while the South African series will start on September 28. India will play their first match in the T20 World Cup against Pakistan on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
