Two Players with an ODI Century in Debut and Last game of Career

1. Dennis Amiss (England)

Former English batter Dennis Amiss became the first player to do so. In fact, he is the first batter to score a century in debut ODI. He made his debut against Australia in August 1972 and made 103 runs with nine fours. England won that game by six wickets and he was the “Man of the Match.”

Then, he played his last game against Australia only in June 1977 at the Oval. He scored 108 runs, with seven fours in the first inning. But Australia won that game by two wickets. Amiss played only 18 ODIs and scored 859 runs at an average of 47.72, with four centuries and one fifty.

2. Desmond Haynes (West Indies)

Former West Indian legend Desmond Haynes holds the record for highest individual score on ODI debut. He played his first ODI in February 1978 against Australia in St John’s and made 148 runs, with 16 fours and two sixes. West Indies won the game by 44 runs.

He played his last ODI after 16 years against England in March 1994 in Port of Spain. He scored 115 off 112 balls, with 14 fours in the first inning. West Indies won the game by 15 runs. Haynes played 238 ODIs in his career and scored 8648 runs at an average of 41.37, with 17 fours and 57 half-centuries.
