Mohammad Rizwan replaced Babar Azam as No. 1 ranked T20I Batsman in latest ICC rankings

The ongoing Asia Cup 2022 has seen some great performances so far. All the Asian nations have shown a really good display so far in the tournament. But one thing that stands out is the dominance shown by Pakistan and the performance of Sri Lanka. Despite no contribution from skipper Babar Azam, Pakistan has done a really good job so far, largely thanks to Mohammad Rizwan.

Rizwan is the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 192 runs in three matches at an average of 96, including two half-centuries. He scored a brilliant half-century against India to help his team win the match.

The 30-year-old has registered two scores of 78* and 71, respectively, in the last two matches. These two knocks have helped him to gain the No. 1 T20I batsman ranking. Rizwan has shown great form in the tournament, which has helped him to dethrone Babar Azam from the No. 1 spot.

The Pakistani skipper has been at the top for the last 1155 days (as of September 7, 2022). On the other hand, Babar has registered three scores of 10, 9, and 14 in three innings. With this, Rizwan has become only the third batter from his country to become the No. 1 ranked T20I batsman in history.

The other two are Babar and Misbah-ul-Haq, who top the T20I batsman rankings. On the other hand, India’s batter, Suryakumar Yadav (775 rating), who was in third spot, has dropped to fourth place after two average performances against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

South Africa’s Aiden Markram is in the third spot with 792 rating points, while Babar Azam is in the second with 794 rating points. After the knock of 72 against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, has climbed four spots up to 13th place.

Afghanistan’s opener, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who is in great form, has made a jump of 14 spots. He is now in 15th place after playing a brilliant innings of 84 runs against Sri Lanka.
