The second test between England and India is moving at a rapid pace. After getting all out for 587 runs in the first innings, India have contained England for 84/5 in 21.4 overs. But after that, Harry Brook and Jamie Smith have played some brilliant shots to take England out of the deep hole.

Both batters reached their respective half-centuries in the partnership. But the fans were treated to a counterattacking half-century by wicket-keeper batter Jamie Smith. He slammed a 43-ball half-century and slammed Prasidh Krishan for 23 runs in a single over.

The pacer kept bowling shots at him, and he used them to perfection and hit him for multiple boundaries. He raced to his fifth half-century and is looking in great touch. The fifth-wicket partnership is looking threatening for India, which has crossed the 100-run mark. India need a wicket and to break this stand to put England under more pressure.

ENG vs IND 2nd Test: Mohammed Siraj dismissed Joe Root and Ben Stokes off consecutive balls; Jamie Smith slamms a fiery 50

Earlier, England started the day at 77/3. It was a brilliant spell by Mohammed Siraj to start the third day. He bowled without luck but then had two crucial scalps in the game. He dismissed Joe Root and Ben Stokes off two consecutive balls.

Root got out while playing a tickle on his leg, and Rishabh Pant caught the ball. On the very next ball, he bowled a perfect bouncer, and Stokes couldn’t take his bat away and was caught by Pant. This was the first time that Stokes got out for a golden duck in his Test career.

England still need a lot of runs to avoid the follow-on. But the way Brook and Smith are batting, India need wickets from their bowlers. Earlier Shubman Gill scored 269 in the first innings to break multiple records. Smith has also completed his second Test century and it came off very quickly. This will be a memorable knock for him.
