T20 World Cup: Devon Conway breaks Virat Kohli’s massive record to equal Babar Azam in an elite list

T20 World Cup 2022: The first match of the “Super 12” stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup is underway. The defending champions, Australia, are taking on New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia won the toss and put New Zealand to bat first. The Black Caps had a good start to the game with both openers putting up 56 partnerships in just 4.1 overs.

Finn Allen played a blistering knock of 42 off just 16 balls, with five fours and three sixes. Then, Devon Conway added another 69 runs with skipper Kane Williamson (23) runs. Conway carried on the momentum even after the skipper got out. In the end, a good cameo from all-rounder James Neesham (26* off 13) helped New Zealand reach a big score of 200/3 in their 20 overs.

Star opener Devon Conway carried his bat through the innings and was not out till the very end. He ended up unbeaten on 92* off 58 balls with seven fours and two sixes. With this knock, he also completed his 1000 T20I runs in his career. Notably, this was his 26th innings when he reached the 1000-run mark in T20Is.

This innings helped him break the record of the former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli. Virat completed 1000 T20I runs in the 27th innings, while Pakistan skipper Babar Azam did it in 26 innings, and now Conway is the joint-second-fastest player to reach this mile stone. English batter Dawid Malan and Afghanistan’s Sabawoon Davizi are the fastest batters, who did it in 24 T20I innings.

Babar Azam and Virat Kohli will be in action tomorrow when India faces Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Fans would love to see a battle between these two in the World Cup.
