Shubman Gill went past Virat Kohli to script World Record with 126 runs in third T20I

IND vs NZ: Shubman Gill: The series decider on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahemdabad ended in India’s favour. And the hosts registered their largest T20I victory by 168 runs in the third and final game to win the series 2-1. And the hero of the match was Shubman Gill, who scored his maiden T20I century to lead India to a massive win.

Batting first, India made a big score of 234/4. Gill remained unbeaten on 126 runs off just 63 balls. He smashed seven sixes and 12 boundaries during his knock. India won the toss and put New Zealand to bowl first. Ishan Kishan (1) got out in the second over. India had an 80-run partnership for the second wicket between Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi.

Tripathi got out after playing a quick cameo of 44 runs from 22 deliveries, smashing three sixes and four boundaries. Gill added another 38 runs with Suryakumar Yadav (24 off 13) and 103 runs with Hardik Pandya (30 off 17) for the third and fourth wickets, respectively. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill carried on and smashed his maiden T20I hundred. He went past the record of Virat Kohli, who scored the previous best score of 122 not out against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup.

Gill also became the eighth player from India to score a century in the shorter format and the fifth to reach the 100-run mark in all three formats. He is now the youngest batter to score a century across three formats. In the second inning, New Zealand had a horrible batting performance and got all out for its third-lowest score of 66 runs. Hardik picked up four wickets while Shivam Mavi, Umran Malik, and Arshdeep Singh ended up with two wickets each. Shubman Gill won the “Man of the Match” award for his century, while Hardik won the “Player of the Series” award.
