The history has been made, and the record that looked impossible has been conquered. Cricket has given many breath-taking performances over the years, but on Monday the world saw Ruturaj Gaikwad register his name in the record books with an unbelievable record. It came in the game between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022.
Batting first, Maharashtra posted a massive total of 330/5 in 50 overs, thanks in large part to an incredible, unbeaten double century from their skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who hit 220 off 159 balls, hitting 16 sixes and 10 fours. But more than his double century, he registered his name in the record books for hitting seven sixes in one over.

It happened in the 49th over of the first innings when Gaikwad was batting at 165 runs, and then he hit seven consecutive sixes off the left-arm spinner Shiva Singh to complete his double century and make a world record for scoring most runs in an over in a List A match. The bowler was unlucky totally that he bowled a no ball on the fifth deliver and conceded an extra six.
With this, Gaikwad broke the 9-year-old record of Zimbabwe’s star Elton Chigumbura for scoring 39 runs in an over in 2013 during a Dhaka Premier League match off Alauddin Babu. Shiva Singh is now the joint-worst bowler in List A history to give up 43 runs in a single over. Willem Ludick from New Zealand is the other bowler with this unwanted record.
