IND vs SL T20I Series: After touring to Bangladesh, the Indian team will lock horns with Sri Lanka at home for three T20Is and three ODIs. The tour will start on January 3 with the first T20I and end on January 15 with the third and final ODI match in Trivandrum. The BCCI announced the T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming series on Tuesday. The Indian management rested all the seniors from the T20I series.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya was given the captain’s job. However, they announced Suryakumar Yadav to be his deputy in the series. The 32-year-old had an incredible 2022 with the bat in the shorter format. He was the highest run-scorer in the world in T20Is, and being promoted as a vice captain was an icing on the cake for the star batter. SKY scored 1164 runs in 31 T20Is at a brilliant average of 46.56 with two centuries.

He also climbed to No. 1 in the T20 rankings with his consistent performance. However, he will be seen doing the job of vice captain in the upcoming series. Reacting to his appointment as India’s vice-captain, Suryakumar was very excited. In an interview with The Times of India, he said that it was unexpected but he is looking forward to it. SKY said,

“It (vice-captaincy) wasn’t expected, but the way the past year has been for me, I can say that it’s like a reward for me. I’m feeling very good about it, and I’m really looking forward to it. I closed my eyes and asked myself: ‘Is this a dream?’”

Furthermore, he revealed that this news was given to him by his father, and he also told him not to take any pressure from the responsibility and to enjoy his game. SKY also lauded Hardik Pandya as a captain and said that he is a brilliant captain, and they both enjoy playing with each other.
