Eoin Morgan to announce his retirement on Tuesday – Report

Eoin Morgan, the World Cup-winning captain, is set to retire from international cricket. As per some reports, he will announce his retirement on June 28, Tuesday. 

England won the last ODI World Cup under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan in 2019 at home. He also led the English team to the top of the ODI and T20I team rankings.

Notably, the 35-year-old is struggling with his batting form and also has some fitness issues. In the recently concluded ODI series against the Netherlands, he missed the third ODI match due to a groin injury.

But in the first two games, when other English batters were scoring runs at will, he got out for ducks in both innings. In the first match, he got out for a golden duck. In the second game, he got out on zero after facing seven balls.

England will compete against India for a three-match ODI and T20I series starting on June 7. So it will be interesting to see if he announces his retirement and who will lead the English side.

Jos Buttler or Moeen Ali to captain the side after Eoin Morgan retires

Morgan took the captaincy ahead of the 2015 ODI World Cup. The 35-year-old was one of the prime reasons for the transition that England had and then they became the World Champions. Without a doubt, England are the top side in the white-ball format.

After Morgan, there are two names that are in contention for the role of captain. Jos Buttler, who has been the vice-captain of the team, captained the side in the third ODI against the Netherlands. 

On the other hand, Moeen Ali is another candidate. Notably, the all-rounder led the team against West Indies in the five-match T20I series earlier this year.

So now it will be interesting to see as Ben Stokes has taken the captaincy role for England in Test matches. So who will be their next white-ball skipper?
