ENG vs IRE: The ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 has given many stunning games so far in 10 days. It started with Namibia beating Sri Lanka in the very first game. And now on Wednesday, there is another and biggest upset, when Ireland wins the game against England by five runs. Notably, this win came due to rain as England were five runs short as per the DLS method and they faced this loss.

However, this win will certainly open Group 1 more, and now the game between England and Australia on Friday (October 28) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground has become bigger. Because whoever wins that game will inch closer to a place in the semi-finals. However, this was not the first time that Ireland had beaten England in the World Cup. They have already done it once.

2. Ireland won by 5 runs in T20 World Cup 2022 at Melbourne

This is only the second win for Ireland against England across all formats. And what a way to get that win. They were a bit lucky, but it happened because of their good bowling upfront. Batting first, Ireland got all out for 157 runs in 19.2 overs. Irish skipper Andy Balbirnie made 62 runs off 47 to help his team. In reply,

England started poorly and lost their first three wickets for just 29 runs within six overs. Dawid Malan (35 off 37) and Harry Brook (18 off 21) also looked a bit rusty. Moeen Ali struck some blows and made 24* off 12. England were 105/5 in 14.3 overs when rain fell, five runs short of the DLS target. Thus, Ireland got an edge and were lucky to win the match.

1. Ireland won by three wickets in 2011 ODI World Cup in Bengalore

One of the most famous upsets in cricket history came in the 2011 ODI World Cup when these two teams met in Bengaluru. It was the 15th game of the tournament and England scored a big total of 327/8 in their 50 overs. Jonathan Trott (92), Kevin Pietersen (59) and Ian Bell (81) all scored half-centuries. In response, Ireland lost their first wicket off the very first ball of the chase. But after that, they had some good contributions in the middle.

But in the end, all-rounder Kevin O’Brien scored the fastest world cup century off just 50 balls and helped Ireland to cause the biggest upset in that tournament. He made 113 runs off 63 balls with 13 fours and six sixes to help his team make 329/7 in 49.1 overs to win the game against England.
