Asia Cup 2022: India announces 15-member squad, No Bumrah, No Shami, No Harshal, No Chahar

Asia Cup 2022: The wait is finally over. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a 15-member squad for India for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. There are a few major changes in the team. India are the defending champions and will look to defend their title against other Asian giants.

The tournament is set to start on Saturday, August 27, with a match between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. India will kick off their campaign with a match against arch rivals Pakistan on Sunday, August 28 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. All the big names are back in the team, but unfortunately, India’s star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, is set to miss the entire tournament.

The first match will be a rematch of last year’s T20 World Cup game. This tournament will also help all Asian teams to check their preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will start in October in Australia.

The BCCI has confirmed that Bumrah will miss the tournament due to his back injury. On the other hand, Harshal Patel will be another notable absentee from the squad. However, KL Rahul has made his comeback and he will assist Rohit Sharma as a vice-captain. India has gone with two wicket-keepers in Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik.

However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the bowling attack in the absence of Bumrah, while Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan are the other two pacers in the side. In the spinning department, India has gone with Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravi Bishnoi. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will be the two all-rounders in the team. Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar, and Axar Patel are the three backup players.
